Position Details

CHIEF is looking for a Front-end Developer with a love of solving problems in a creative environment. You’ll be part of the front-end practice area within the technology team, working alongside designers, other developers, UXers, strategists and project managers to develop and maintain websites and web applications. We’re seeking a candidate with experience developing and maintaining responsive themes in either Drupal or WordPress, with a long-term interest in working with both systems.

What You'll Do

  • Create responsive Drupal and WordPress themes using Sass, PHP and/or Twig, and JavaScript/jQuery
  • Evaluate designs, wireframes and other deliverables during the design and user experience phase for potential development issues
  • Collaborate with designers and UXers to plan front-end functionality
  • Review work for performance and compliance with accessibility standards,* according to CHIEF’s guidelines
  • Conduct peer review of code created by other developers
  • Conduct cross-browser and cross-device testing to ensure consistent display in major supported browsers on Mac, Windows, iOS and Android devices
  • Communicate the intricacies of complex web development issues, acting as a subject matter expert both internally across departments and externally with clients
  • Prototype functionality for internal and client review

*Past experience with accessibility standards is not required.

What It Takes

  • Experience with Drupal or WordPress front-end development and configuration, preferably including creating themes from scratch based on design comps
  • Expert HTML and Sass/CSS skills
  • Experience with Git version control
  • Familiarity with grid-based responsive web design
  • Ability to estimate time and level of effort for development tasks
  • Experience with Drush or WP CLI
  • Familiarity with jQuery and other JavaScript libraries
  • Preferred: Familiarity with PHP development and/or Twig templating
  • Preferred: Basic understanding of accessibility best practices, Section 508 compliance and/or WCAG 2.0 standards

Additional Requirements

  • 3+ years professional web development experience, 1+ years of experience with Drupal or WordPress
  • Bachelor’s Degree and U.S. Citizenship required
