Position Details

CHIEF is looking for a Senior WordPress Developer with an eye for detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced setting. We’re looking for an experienced candidate with expertise in developing WordPress themes and plugins; a full understanding of web standards and responsive design techniques; an understanding of jQuery and other JavaScript libraries; and expert HTML and Sass skills.

As a part of the Technology Team, you will report to the WordPress practice lead, under the Director of Technology, and work in a highly collaborative environment to drive client impact. You’ll work with designers, other developers, UXers, strategists and project managers to develop and maintain WordPress websites. 

What You'll Do

  • Lead the development of WordPress sites with minimal oversight, and act as a mentor to other developers within the technology team
  • Develop responsive, standards-compliant HTML and CSS3 themes for WordPress
  • Install, test and debug WordPress plugins and develop new plugins as needed
  • Evaluate designs, wireframes and other deliverables during the design and user experience phase for potential development issues and flag problems appropriately
  • Conduct peer review of themes created by other developers
  • Conduct cross-browser and cross-device testing to ensure consistent display in major supported browsers on Mac, PC, iOS and Android platforms
  • Communicate the intricacies of complex web development issues, acting as a subject matter expert both internally across departments and externally with clients
  • Prototype functionality for internal and client review

What It Takes

  • Experience creating and modifying WordPress themes
  • Experience with WP-CLI
  • Expert HTML & CSS skills with full understanding of web standards and responsive design techniques
  • Familiarity with Sass
  • Understanding of jQuery and other JavaScript libraries
  • Experience with Git version control
  • Ability to estimate time and level of effort for front-end development tasks
  • Ability to manipulate and slice PSDs and InDesign files
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately
  • Preferred: Basic understanding of accessibility best practices, Section 508 compliance and/or WCAG 2.0 standards
  • Strongly Preferred: Expertise with PHP development

Additional Requirements

  • 4+ years professional web development experience
  • Bachelor’s degree and U.S. citizenship required
